Key Features

White Walls and Roof

For an extra layer of protection, every GE Silo features white painted walls rather than the usual raw galvanised steel. And we think the white walls look pretty smart too!

60º Cone Angle

Optimised specifically for pellets and feed, the 60 degree cone ensures a smooth outlet flow in dense or sticky product, as well as feedstocks that tend to clump up.

Weather Proof Pellet Outlet

Our custom-designed slide outlet protects your feed from the elements at all times. The outlet size can be customised to suit your feed system.

Blower Pipe and Vent

All of our pellet and feed silos come with a blower pipe and vent as standard, allowing for filling by blower truck and consistent venting while filling and emptying.

Select a Silo Model

Start by choosing a silo with the storage capacity and features you need.

Choose a model to see standard features and specifications for that model, as well as a 360º view of the silo (base model).

Features

Pellet & Feed Silos

Standard Features

We pride ourselves on building silos that will serve you well for many years to come, and we work hard to ensure that every GE Silo has the features you need to get the job done with the minimum of hassle. The following features are all included as standard on this silo – no fuss, no hidden costs, just stock-standard.

Blower Pipe

Included as standard on all our pellet & feed silos, blower pipes allow the silo to be filled by a blower truck. A steel pipe runs from the top of your silo down the wall with a connector at the bottom. The blower pipe can be positioned anywhere on the silo and bends are made from heavy-duty, 4.5mm thick 100nb pipe for a longer life.

Camlock

The camlock allows feed delivery companies to connect their hoses to the blower pipe when filling your silo. Included as standard on our pellet & feed silos, the camlock is attached to the bottom end of the blower pipe. Camlock covers are also available.

Bag Chute

Bag chutes can be used for sampling and emptying the silo into auger boots, wheelbarrows, and bins. The 125mm square chute has a handle and butterfly flap. Bag chutes are included as standard on pellet & feed silos, and typically positioned to the side of the main outlet, though they can be placed at any height and position you want. Gas tight version available.

Sight Glasses

Sight glasses allow you to quickly see how much product is in your silo. We include 100mm diameter clear Perspex sight glasses as standard, spaced at one sight glass per 1200mm wall sheet. Sight glasses can also be fitted anywhere on the silo – including in the base – depending on your needs.

60 Degree Cone

Our pellet & feed silos come with a 60 degree cone angle as standard. We have found that this steep pitch works well to counteract friction in dense or sticky product, as well as material that has a tendency to form hard clumps like crushed grain.

Base Manhole

A base manhole allows appropriately trained and equipped personnel to inspect, clean and maintain the silo. Our ledge-free design stops product from building up on top of the manhole and the pointed design greatly reduces how much feed falls out when opening the manhole. Note: round manholes are still used on sealed silos to allow for better sealing.

Safety Ring

Another standard safety feature on every GE Silo, the safety ring provides a secure harness clip-on point at the top of the silo, allowing for safe inspection and maintenance work. This feature is especially important when working with our largest silos, which can exceed 10 M in height.

Ladder and Cage

An Australian-standard ladder and cage designed to fit any GE silo. Improve safety and ease of access to your silo with a new ladder on your old silo. Features an easy no-weld onsite assembly. Made from top-grade Aussie steel with a simple and solid design for maximum longevity.

Lid Opener

Open and close the top lid of your silo without climbing to the top! Our lid opener is a timesaving standard feature and is made up of a 760mm lid with a large lever handle and cable that extends to the base of the silo. A winch at ground level opens the lid against strong holding-down springs, and upon release of the cable the lid springs closed again. Available in standard or gas-tight versions.

Extended Vent

Allow air and dust to escape when using a pneumatic filling system, while preventing dust from landing on nearby sheds and silo roofs, or in spouts and air conditioner systems. Extended vents let air and dust out of the silo at ground level and are positioned to suit your requirements.

Pellet Auger Box

Use a pellet auger box when you want to permanently fit a small screw auger that will pull feed out of the silo. A 320mm x 290mm x 300mm square box is fitted to the bottom of the cone, with a slide on the bottom for emptying and service.

Bollards

Reduce the risk of damage to silo and frame with steel bollards bolted to the concrete in front of the silo legs. We can install bollards at time of silo delivery or supply bollards separately as needed.

Extension Frame Closed All Sides

This is a four-legged, square frame that is designed to increase outlet clearance. Being closed on all sides prevents bins from being driven under the silo. Closed extension frames are usually built with a extended outlet chute.

Extension Frame Open Front and Back

This is a four-legged, square frame that is open at the front and back, allowing a bucket or bin to be placed under the silo outlet and driven out the other side. Commonly used with feed-out bins, wagons, front-end loaders, trailers and utes. We recommend installing bollards to protect the frame and silo from damage.

Extension Frame with Front Open

This is a four-legged, square frame that is open at the front, allowing a bucket or bin to be placed under the silo outlet. Most commonly used with feed out bins, wagons, front end loaders, trailers and utes. This frame is only open at the front and is not able to be driven through. We recommend installing bollards to protect the frame and silo from damage.

Extended Bag Chute

We can extend the bag chute up to 3 metres, bringing the chute opening further out from the silo and allowing you to fill larger bins, carts, front-end loaders, etc. Gas-tight version available.

Extended Outlet Chute

An outlet chute is a large square chute with handle and butterfly flap – similar to a bag chute but larger – that brings the chute opening further out from the silo to allow for filling of larger bins, carts, front end loaders. Designed to be the main point of emptying the silo, they can be placed at any height and direction on the silo.

Large UB Frame

Large UB style frames are designed to allow for wider and higher clearances. Commonly used to allow trucks, tractors and larger bins to drive underneath. Frames are hot-dip galvanised for increased longevity. We recommend installing bollards to accompany this frame, to protect the framework and silo from damage.

Remote Opening Slide Outlet

Remotely access your slide outlet via a lever system to open and close the slide. Remote opening slide outlets are most commonly used with raised outlets but can also be used with standard outlets to allow the operator to open the slide from outside of the silo legs.

Extra Sight Glasses

Sight glasses give you an instant visual indicator of product levels without needing to open the silo or use electronic sensors. We include one sight glass per 1200mm wall sheet as standard, but we can include additional 100mm diameter clear perspex sight glasses as needed, including in the base.

Load Cells

Load cells give an incredibly accurate digital readout of weight of the product in the silo, which is useful when filling trucks or monitoring silo capacity by weight. We can fit load cells to your silo at the factory or we can design the footplates on your new silo to match your existing load cells.

Custom Cone Angle

Each type of silo has a standard cone angle which is optimised for the intended storage use-case, based on usage and typical conditions. But we can customise the angle of the cone to suit your needs. A steeper cone angle might improve product flow, or a shallower angle might help you to adhere to height restrictions. We can also build offset cone angles (where the outlet is off-centre).

Internal Coating

A standard feature on our fertiliser silos, we use a two-part epoxy paint (Epinamel DTM985) to coat the inside of base of the silo, preventing the harsh compounds in fertiliser from eating into the Zincalume coating. When paired with our pre-painted food-grade coating on the upper walls, this combination provides an excellent level of protection for common fertiliser applications.

Feed & Seed Cone and Outlet

This unique offset cone and bag chute outlet allows easy access for emptying into bags or wheelbarrows. This cone and outlet configuration is only compatible with our smaller 7, 12, 16, and 21 tonne silos.

Live Bottom

The live bottom is a large outlet for use with fixed augers that pull difficult to flow feeds such as meat meal. Your live bottom can be supplied with a matching auger or with the flange only, configured to suit your current auger setup.

External Painting

GE Silos come in a smart white finish as standard, but we can also supply your silo pre-painted in a colour of your choice. We are most often asked to paint silos for aesthetic reasons: to blend in with the environment or buildings around it.

Custom Outlet Height

We can extend or lower the legs on your silo to achieve a particular outlet height. A custom outlet height might enable better access underneath the silo, or provide more clearance for your bins, carts and loaders.

Customisation

About
Pellet & Feed Silos

It’s not rocket science, but storing and handling pellets and feed does require a bit of thought.

Pellets and other feedstocks can be tricky things to store and dispense easily and consistently. You’d definitely have a hard time if you chucked 21 tonnes of dairy feed pellets into a stock-standard grain silo! [shudders at the thought]

Over many years of supplying and installing feed silos for our customers, we've hit on a winning formula that ticks most of the boxes when it comes to pellet and feed storage:

  • Steep 60º cone angle increases the ability of the contents to flow down to the outlet
  • 900mm ground clearance for easy access and quick unloading of feed
  • Blower pipe with camlock for easy blower truck filling
  • Vent to equalise pressure while filling and emptying
  • Customisable weather-proof pellet outlet that can connect to your feed system
  • Bag chute to the side of the main outlet adds flexibility for hand-emptying
  • Regular sight glasses up the side of the silo provides an instant visual indication of the fill level
  • Base manhole that allows appropriately trained and equipped personnel to inspect, clean and maintain the silo

Option-up to your heart’s content

Unlike hats, there is no one-size-fits-all silo – as much as it might make our lives a whole lot simpler!

So while we have created one heck of a standard pellet and feed silo, of all our silo ranges pellet and feed silos are some of the most-customised.

We offer a wide range of customisation options to get the silo just right for your specific situation:

  • Many of our pellet and feed silos are connected to a feed system, requiring a customised outlet
  • We are often asked to extend the frame to allow for a drive-through configuration for trucks or a reverse-in / drive-out configuration for trailers
  • It is also very common for blower pipes and vents to be extended for centralised filling and/or venting
  • And in some cases we will even customise the shape of the silo itself to fit a constrained site

So if you're not sure whether we have an option to suit your specific needs, please don't hesitate to touch base and ask us what we can do – chances are you're not the first person to ask the same question!
