Fertiliser Silos

Arguably the toughest silos we make, fertiliser silos from GE Silos are built from extra-thick genuine Aussie steel and fitted out with everything you need to safely store and handle fertilisers.

Most Common Fertilisers

Key Features

Fertiliser Outlet with RHS Arm

Includes the latest GE Silos-designed fertiliser outlet with a large 400mm opening, low-friction slides, diverter and a handy RHS arm for remote opening.

White Walls & Internal Coating

Every GE Silo features white painted walls rather than raw galvanised steel. Fertiliser silos are internally coated with a two-part epoxy paint for corrosion resistance.

1.6mm Thick Silo Walls

Our fertiliser silos are made from thick 1.6mm steel for superior strength and durability when carrying harsh chemicals. Heavy duty frame supports extra weight.

Generous Standard Features

Lid opener, sight glasses, base manhole, safety ring – all standard on a GE Silo. Customise your silo with gas-tight sealing, ladders, aeration, ventilators, and more.

Features

Fertiliser Silos

Standard Features

We pride ourselves on building silos that will serve you well for many years to come, and we work hard to ensure that every GE Silo has the features you need to get the job done with the minimum of hassle. The following features are all included as standard on this silo – no fuss, no hidden costs, just stock-standard.

Fertiliser Outlet

Empty your fertiliser silo with a large 400mm outlet at the base of the cone. Designed for ease of use and high performance with low-friction HDPE slides, safety guards, and a canvas diverter. Includes RHS arm for easy remote operation of the outlet.

Internal Coating

A standard feature on our fertiliser silos, we use a two-part epoxy paint (Epinamel DTM985) to coat the inside of base of the silo, preventing the harsh compounds in fertiliser from eating into the Zincalume coating. When paired with our pre-painted food-grade coating on the upper walls, this combination provides an excellent level of protection for common fertiliser applications.

45 Degree Cone

Our fertiliser silos are built with a 45 degree cone angle as standard. We find that fertilisers need a steeper cone angle in order to release reliably, and 45º provides a good balance of flow and practicality. In many cases, a 45º cone is also helpful for more difficult grains. If in doubt, please get in touch with our team to find the cone angle best suits your needs.

Base Blocks 15mm

Base blocks prevent water, dust and grain from accumulating under the silo rings and make cleaning around the base of your silo much easier. This has the effect of significantly increasing the lifespan of your silo rings. We install all new silos with 15mm base blocks and given the no-weld design, they can be easily retrofitted to your existing silos.

Lid Opener

Open and close the top lid of your silo without climbing to the top! Our lid opener is a timesaving standard feature and is made up of a 760mm lid with a large lever handle and cable that extends to the base of the silo. A winch at ground level opens the lid against strong holding-down springs, and upon release of the cable the lid springs closed again. Available in standard or gas-tight versions.

Base Manhole

A base manhole allows appropriately trained and equipped personnel to inspect, clean and maintain the silo. Our ledge-free design stops product from building up on top of the manhole and the pointed design greatly reduces how much feed falls out when opening the manhole. Note: round manholes are still used on sealed silos to allow for better sealing.

Safety Ring

Another standard safety feature on every GE Silo, the safety ring provides a secure harness clip-on point at the top of the silo, allowing for safe inspection and maintenance work. This feature is especially important when working with our largest silos, which can exceed 10 M in height.

External Painting

GE Silos come in a smart white finish as standard, but we can also supply your silo pre-painted in a colour of your choice. We are most often asked to paint silos for aesthetic reasons: to blend in with the environment or buildings around it.

Load Cells

Load cells give an incredibly accurate digital readout of weight of the product in the silo, which is useful when filling trucks or monitoring silo capacity by weight. We can fit load cells to your silo at the factory or we can design the footplates on your new silo to match your existing load cells.

Extra Sight Glasses

Sight glasses give you an instant visual indicator of product levels without needing to open the silo or use electronic sensors. We include one sight glass per 1200mm wall sheet as standard, but we can include additional 100mm diameter clear perspex sight glasses as needed, including in the base.

Custom Outlet Height

We can extend or lower the legs on your silo to achieve a particular outlet height. A custom outlet height might enable better access underneath the silo, or provide more clearance for your bins, carts and loaders.

Wheeled Grain Hopper

This large hopper with wheels can be used to empty your silo using augers of all sizes. The wheeled design allows for easy manoeuvrability with no lifting and pairs with our grain outlet. Ask about our grain outlet brochure for further details.

Customisation

Need something specific for your silo?
We might be able to help!

Every GE Silo is built by hand in our workshop in central Victoria and we're old hands at customising silos to suit our customers’ needs. So let us know if there’s something you need that you don't see listed above: chances are we’ve done it before, and if we haven’t, we can probably work it out!

About
Fertiliser Silos

Everyone knows you don’t mess about with fertilisers, so we don’t mess about with fertiliser silos.

Working with large volumes of fertilisers is serious business: the consequences of lapses in fertiliser safety can be catastrophic. And in that spirit, we take an equally serious attitude towards crafting fertiliser silos that are both safe and easy to use.

We only use the best quality materials, sourced locally wherever possible, with extra-think 1.6mm Australian steel sheets making up the walls of the silo. Rivets are placed at 100mm intervals for an excellent seal. And the framework contains additional bracing to ensure it can support the mass of fertiliser contained within.

The inside walls of our fertiliser silos are coated with a corrosion-resistant two-part epoxy enamel to protect against the harsh chemicals in fertiliser, and to extend the working life of the silo.
